In honor of our dear friend and fellow weed warrior, please join us on Saturday, June 28th from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at beautiful Sandstone Ranch District Park for a day of noxious weed education and pulling.  This second annual event is also part of a statewide campaign called Pulling for Colorado.  The day will begin with noxious weed identification training.  Afterwards, we will join with our community to pull noxious weeds that are threatening Sandstone Ranch.

July 12 Pulling for Colorado at Bear Creek Lake Park

We will be pulling and learning about noxious weeds at the Bear Creek Lake Park visitor center.  This will be the fifth year we have pulled weeds at the visitor center and the area is looking really good.  Afterwards there will be a cool snack for all who helped out.

July 12 Pulling for Colorado at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield

Join us to help control noxious weeds at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. Learn how to identify noxious weeds and why weed management is important. We will also provide information on the weed management and native habitat restoration plans at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. Volunteers will be able to assist in pulling several weeds. This will be light to medium work and will include snacks and drinks.

July 12 Summit County Pulling for Colorado

The Summit County Pulling 4 Colorado event will be held at the Summit County Community and Senior Center, located at 0093 Nancy’s Place (CR 1014) in Frisco.

 

The fun will begin at 8:00 with a light breakfast and a short presentation.  Groups will then  head out to specified locations for a few hours of pulling weeds and learning more about how weeds effect our environment.  Lunch will be served to returning volunteers beginning at 12:00 back at the Community Center.  Bring your kids, gloves and a good strong back and plan on a great day.

Would you like to help stop the spread of invasive weeds? 
Pulling For Colorado is a statewide effort to educate residents about the impacts noxious weeds have on our natural, agricultural and recreational lands.  Volunteers will learn about diffuse knapweed, the problems it causes, and then work together with a weeds specialist to pull and dig it up.  Pulling invasive weeds by hand is one important component of Boulder County’s integrated weed management.

July 17-19 Third Annual Grand Junction Weed Rodeo

Mesa County Fairgrounds - Grand Junction

 

We will be holding the third annual Grand Junction Weed Rodeo in partnership with the Mesa County Fair. The first 50 folks to bring in one garbage bag full of pulled weeds from their yards get a free Mesa County Fair Admission ticket usable any time after bag drop off and is fully transferrable! (requires purchase of one fair ticket to bring bags to drop off booth). The first 100 folks to visit the Grand Junction Weed Rodeo booth at the Mesa County Fairgrounds also get a free Frisbee flyer . (Limit one admission ticket and one frisbee flyer per person).

Come drop off your weeds, learn about invasive plants in Mesa County, and win free prizes! Win gift cards to Bananas Fun Park & Famous Dave’s BBQ, weed spraying equipment from Tractor Supply, a copy of the book Weeds of the West, and other great prizes if you bring in the most bags of weeds, play the Weed ID game, and/or enter the free drawing! Learn how to identify some of the most common weeds in the area, then repeat them back to us and win prizes (kids too!) for the Weed ID game. Master Gardeners will be on hand to identify your ‘mystery plants’ from your property if you bring them in, or just come find out how best to control those problem weeds on your property. And while you are here, be sure to pick up your free Noxious Weeds of Colorado booklet and all kinds of other free weed education materials!

 

Weeds must be brought in durable plastic garbage bags, and we will not accept non-weed materials. Bags will be inspected on delivery to track species brought in. Drop off for weeds is from 11 am to 3:30 pm at the Grand Junction Weed Rodeo booth in the Demonstration Building at the fair, but the Free Fair Admission ticket can be used any time after bag drop off and is fully transferable to another attendee.

July 19 Mesa County CSU Extension Demonstration Garden Plant Identification Tour & Weed Pull

You can get a free Mesa County fair ticket just for joining us at our CSU Extension Demonstration Garden Plant Identification Tour & Weed Pull and pulling at least one bag of weeds on Saturday morning July 19th from 8:30 to 10 am.

 

Please meet in front of the Colorado State University Extension building (west end of Mesa County Fairgrounds parking lot) for the start of the tour.

 

Drinks & snacks & weed bags & gloves will be provided but bring your own hat (& own gloves if you have them)!

July 26 Estes Park Weed Roundup 2014

The Estes Land Stewardship Association (ELSA) will staff an informational booth with members and Master Gardeners. These volunteers will hand out Fourteen Most Unwanted Weeds in the Estes Valley (and other detailed weed identification and management guides), and - with freshly pulled examples on hand -  will help participants learn to identify unwanted weeds.


Weed pulling will take place throughout the Estes Valley. Participants will be invited to drop off bags for disposal in the Estes Park burn curtain. Everyone who brings at least one standard-sized paper trash bag of weeds will receive an ELSA/Estes Park “Pulling for Colorado” promotional item. We will also award prizes for Most Weeds Pulled and for Largest Weed Pulled.

June 27 Costilla County - Pulling for Rito Seco Park

The Costilla County Youth Corps Community Crew and Costilla County will be working to eradicate a number of noxious weeds. The project will include hand pulling and digging. Costilla County will provide weed identification and noxious weed education for the local youth participating in the community crew program.

July 11-12 Fremont County Weed Advisory Board - 1st Annual Invasive Plant Challenge

Fremont County  - Workshop portion located at 4-H community building
Field site location - Blue Heron Wildlife Area/Pathfinder Park

 

This weed identification contest will challenge participants to use agency materials and guidebooks to identify a selection of List A and B species. Then a site visit challenge will place participants in a real-world scenario with a wide range of plant species including native, noxious, and non-invasive. At this stage, participants will design a holistic weed management plan for the entire site including plant ID, methods of control, and timing of selected methods. Following the site visits, a workshop will then be conducted to review participant plans and educate contestants on correct management  and methods.

FFA students will identify and remove salt cedar (tamarisk) with the help of Conejos County Weed District Director Myron Price.

 

The Center Conservation District will work with the Saguache County Road & Bridge Department and youth from the High Valley Community Center in Del Norte to dig and haul off Canada thistle and diffuse knapweed.
