July 13 Pulling Together at Walker Ranch

8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Walker Ranch - Boulder County Open Space Park

Would you like to help stop the spread of invasive weeds?

Pulling For Colorado is a statewide effort to educate residents about the impacts noxious weeds have on our natural, agricultural and recreational lands.  Volunteers will learn about diffuse knapweed, the problems it causes, and then work together with a weeds specialist to pull and dig it up.  Pulling invasive weeds by hand is one important component of Boulder County’s integrated weed management.

July 18-20 Grand Junction Weed Rodeo 2013

11:00 am - 3:30 pm

Mesa County Fairgrounds

We will be holding the second annual Grand Junction Weed Rodeo July 18-20 from 11 am to 3:30 pm daily in partnership with the Mesa County Fair. The first 75 folks to bring in one garbage bag full of pulled weeds from their yards get a free Mesa County Fair Admission ticket usable any time after bag drop off and is fully transferrable! The first 100 folks to visit the Grand Junction Weed Rodeo booth at the Mesa County Fairgrounds win a free ‘Pulling for Colorado’ insulated lunch cooler or similar prize. (Limit one admission ticket and one cooler/prize per person).

Come drop off your weeds, learn about invasive plants in Mesa County, and win free prizes! Win gift cards to Bananas Fun Park, Dairy Queen, Famous Dave’s BBQ, or Regal Movie Theater if you bring in the most bags of weeds, play the Weed ID game, and/or entering our free drawing! Learn how to identify some of the most common weeds in the area, then all you have to do is memorize some of them and you can win prizes (kids too!) for the Weed ID game. Master Gardeners will be on hand to identify your ‘mystery plants’ from your property if you bring them in, or just come find out how best to control those problem weeds on your property. And while you are here, be sure to pick up your free 2014 Colorado Weed Management Association calendar and all kinds of other free weed education materials!

Weeds must be brought in durable plastic garbage bags, and we will not accept non-weed materials. Bags will be inspected on delivery to track species brought in. Drop off for weeds is from 11 am to 3:30 pm at the Grand Junction Weed Rodeo booth, but the Free Fair Admission ticket can be used any time after bag drop off and is fully transferable to another attendee.

This event is being held in partnership with:  Tamarisk Coalition, ‘Pulling for Colorado’, Mesa County Fairgrounds, Colorado State University Extension, Tri River Master Gardeners, and Mesa County Weed & Pest.
